“Pretty Little Liars”' Torrey DeVitto Praises 'Well-Read' Costar Troian Bellisario: We'd 'Sit and Talk About Books' (Exclusive)
Speaking with PEOPLE at Epic Cons Chicago, the actress shared that she and Bellisario shared a love of reading
Torrey DeVitto shares that there was a love of literature on the Pretty Little Liars set.
Speaking with PEOPLE at Epic Cons Chicago earlier this month, the actress, 39, shared that she and her former costar Troian Bellisario formed a special bond over books while working on the show.
“She's so insanely smart and well-read,” DeVitto said of Bellisario. “I love reading, and so I felt like we would just sit and talk about books and just talk about things. I always felt like I was learning something from her every time I talked to her. So I miss that.”
DeVitto’s love of reading is still going strong even after the series’ ending in 2017. In January, DeVitto shared 24 books that she hoped to read — or reread — this year on Instagram. Her TBR list includes the memoir A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk M.D. and Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng.
The actress also said that it’s been difficult to keep up with what's going on with her other former Pretty Little Liars cast these days.

“It's so hard, especially for a lot of us,” she said. “A lot of us don't really live in LA anymore, either. I live full time in Michigan now, so it's hard to stay in touch.”
Despite the challenges, DeVitto said there is one resident from Rosewood with whom she does stay in regular contact.
“I'd say out of the Pretty Little Liars cast, I stay in touch with Ian Harding the most,” she said. “We stay in touch all the time, and honestly, it's been even months since I've spoken to him, which is so tragic. But also, I have phone anxiety. Truly, when I see somebody call, I duck as if they can see me.”
DeVitto also shared that one friend whose calls don't make her want to duck and cover is Arielle Kebbel, who grew up in the same hometown of Winter Park, Florida.
“I've known her since I was 12 years old,” DeVitto says. “She's the only person that gets me on the phone and we talk for hours.”

DeVitto also discussed her return to Chicago Med for the show’s season 8 finale, which happened to be her former costar Nick Gehlfuss’ final episode as Dr. Will Halstead.
"I wanted them to end up together so badly, and Nick became a brother to me," she said. "I love that dude so much. And so it was because he was leaving, I was just like, we need to give this to all of the Manstead fans out there."
