Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei Begins 10-Day Wedding Ceremony
Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei in Southeast Asia is getting married. Mateen’s father, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, announced his engagement to Anisha Rosnah Isa Kalebic, who isn’t a royal, in October 2023. January 7 marked the beginning of the couple’s lavish 10-day wedding ceremony, known as Khatam Quran.
On Monday, January 8, designer Teh Firdaus shared photos of Kalebic’s first bridal look.
“Honored to play a role in the Brunei royal wedding. Witness the grace of Yang Mulia Dayang Anisha Rosnah Adam Isa Kalebic in our custom-made baju kurung in intricately woven tenunan Brunei, as she embraces elegance during her Khatam Quran event,” Firdaus wrote in the Instagram caption.
Then, on Wednesday, another of Kalebic’s wedding ensembles designed by Firdaus was revealed, this time a long-sleeve lace dress with a matching veil.
“The Berdedak Mandi ceremony, a spectacle of magnificence, took place at Istana Nurul Iman, where HRH Prince Abdul Mateen and YM Dayang Anisha Rosnah binti Adam were bathed in blessings by their nearest and dearest,” photographer Muash Rosman posted. “Parents, siblings, and venerable elders graced this momentous occasion, enveloping the soon-to-be-wedded pair in an aura of glamour and tradition.”
For Kalebic’s traditional powdering ceremony, a ceremonial event where family and friends are invited to bless the bride and groom with an ointment made from colored rice flour and oils, she wore a red and gold dress with an intricate gold headpiece and red veil.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque on the fifth day of the 10-day affair. Next week, there will be a parade through Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei.
