The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have accepted an invitation to visit Colombia later this summer. Prince Harry and Meghan were invited to the South American country by the Colombian vice president Francia Marquez.

In a statement confirming the four-day visit, Marquez said she was “pleased” that Colombia will be hosting the Sussexes for the excursion, which will “illuminate Colombia's role as a beacon of culture and innovation”.

While the exact itinerary of the visit is yet to be confirmed, it’s thought Harry and Meghan will spend time in the Colombian capital Bogata, as well as the Caribbean and Pacific regions of Cartagena and Cali. The trip will also see the pair meet with young people and youth leaders.

It comes as Colombia prepares to host the international Ending Violence Against Children conference in November. Part of the conference will see plans unveiled with ideas to improve online safety, and ways to tackle cyberbullying.

The aims are very much aligned with the charitable endeavours of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with the pair having hosted a mental health summit last year as part of their work at the Archewell Foundation.

The event was firmly focused on child safety in the age of digital media, with families who have lost children due to mental health struggles, some of which stemmed from overexposure to social media, invited to attend.

Harry and Meghan’s upcoming trip to Colombia comes after they previously visited Nigeria earlier this year to celebrate 10 years of the Invictus Games.

Their trips are not classed as official royal tours, with the couple having chosen to step back as working members of the British royal family. However, they bear a strong resemblance to traditional royal tours, with Harry and Meghan gaining access to politicians and other high-profile individuals.
