Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have named their new dog - and its moniker might well be a nod to the Commonwealth

We’re all waiting patiently for the day that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they’re expanding their family with a royal baby, but for now we’ll have to make do with this: Harry and Meghan have adopted a dog.

Last week it was reported the Duke and Duchess have homed a black labrador – and word is they’ve finally give their pooch a name.

If reports are to be believed, the latest Sussex addition has been named ‘Oz’.

The news was reported by USA Today via royal author Sally Bedell Smith.

Oz is a common nickname for Australia so it could be that the Duke and Duchess have paid homage to the country, one of the members of the Commonwealth.

It would be choice timing, as the royal pair are due to tour Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and the Kingdom of Tonga in October.

Puppy Oz will join Meghan Markle’s current dog, Guy, a beagle, who she brought over to the UK just prior to the royal wedding. Meghan has one more dog, Bogart, who was sadly considered too old to make the trip across seas.

Just before the royal wedding, Guy was spotted hitching a ride with the Queen – so he’s clearly made a good impression.

The royal couple proved their love of dogs when they met with Irish President Michael Higgins and his wife, Sabina, and their two Bernese mountain dogs at their residence during the couple’s royal tour of Ireland.
