Prince Harry Wants Archie and Lili to Have Relationships With the Royals

Prince Harry may be currently estranged from his brother, Prince William, and father, King Charles III, but he still wants his children to be close to his royal family.

In a candid cover story interview with People, the Duke of Sussex says, “I’ve said before that I’ve wanted a family, not an institution—so of course, I would love nothing more than for our children to have relationships with members of my family, and they do with some, which brings me great joy.”

In their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, Harry and his wife, Duchess Meghan, say they remain close to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie, who has even visited them in California. And even though the senior royals have met Archie, 3, as he was born when Harry and Meghan were still working senior royals, it’s unclear if they have all met or have any relationship with the Sussexes’ daughter, Lilibet, 19 months.

One royal who was always there for him and his family with Meghan, however, was Queen Elizabeth II. Harry tells the magazine that he and the monarch “were very close, and we very much did have a special relationship. I miss her dearly, as well as her cheeky sense of humor and quick wit.” He adds, “I will forever cherish every memory I had with her, especially the times she spent with my children.”

Throughout his memoir, Spare, which was released today, Harry reveals all the reasons he left the monarchy but also repeats his wish to reconcile with his family members. While talking to People, the prince says the same but adds that he truly feels like he is “exactly where I am meant to be and exactly where we [my family] are meant to be. I don’t think I could have written this book otherwise.”
