Update December 2022: In the Sussexes' new Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, Meghan opens up about scrolling through Prince Harry's Instagram before they even met. "Meghan and I met over Instagram," Harry explains.

"I was scrolling through my feed, and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, like a snapchat...I was like 'who is that?'" That friend, who remains nameless, then reached out to Meghan to see if she might like to meet "Prince Haz."

"I asked if I could see his feed," Meghan says. "That's the thing when people say did you Google him? No, but I [moves her hands as if she's swiping] that's your homework. You're like, 'Hmm, let me see what they're about in their feed.' Not what someone else says about them, but what they are putting out about themselves. That to me was the best barometer. So I went through and it was just beautiful photography and all these environmental shots, and this time he was spending in Africa."

While the series does not share Harry's instagram handle it does reveal several of the images he shared on the account. Harry & Meghan is available to stream now.

Original July 2020: Before Meghan Markle was the Duchess of Sussex, she had a robust social media presence. She regularly posted on her personal Instagram account, and of course, ran the now-shuttered lifestyle blog The Tig.

But few people know that Prince Harry was also active on social media before meeting his now-wife. Finding Freedom, a forthcoming biography of the Sussexes by reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, alleges that Prince Harry used a private Instagram account with a Deadmau5-themed handle.

Shortly after Harry and Meghan's first date at Soho House’s Dean Street Townhouse in London, Meghan started following the Instagram account @SpikeyMau5. (For reference, the account is currently private, and has just one follower. It follows four other accounts. It's unclear if Harry still uses it.)

According to Scobie and Durand, SpikeyMau5 is actually Prince Harry's alias.

"With no face visible in the profile photo, just a mouse-shaped helmet, it would have meant nothing to most people. But it was in fact Harry’s private account. A big house music fan, he crafted the pseudonym by using part of the name of one of his favourite DJs, Deadmau5," write the authors.

"Spikey came from a Facebook alias that Harry used for an account he had under the name of Spike Wells. 'Spike' was a nickname sometimes used for the prince, particularly by Scotland Yard officers." That Facebook account is now, reportedly, defunct.

And while Harry's Instagram was private, Scobie and Durand allege that Meghan sent Harry a not-so-subtle message through her own post the night of their first date.

That evening, she shared "a photo of a Love Hearts candy with the inscription 'Kiss Me' and the caption 'Lovehearts in #London.'"

"Whether it had meaning to anyone else, Harry got the message," say Scobie and Durand.
