Prince William Says the Royal Family Really Appreciates Everyone's Kind Messages About Kate And King Charles
Prince William returned to public duties today just over one week after Kate Middleton was discharged from the hospital following major abdominal surgery, and two days after King Charles announced he has cancer. And when arriving for a gala dinner this evening, the Prince of Wales took the opportunity to remark on how much the royal family appreciates the public support over the health challenges they have faced.
When asked by a BBC journalist as he exited his car how grateful he was for the public support in recent weeks, the Prince replied, "We really appreciate everyone's kind messages, thank you.” However, when asked a second question by an ITV journalist about how the King was, William was almost inside the venue and did not answer.
The Prince of Wales is attending a gala dinner at Raffles hotel in central London to support the London Air Ambulance, a charity he became Patron of in 2020. The cause is close to his heart as he was an airport pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance from 2015 to 2017.
While Prince William is out and about on duties today, no further events have been announced for him and he is expected to continue to modify his program as required to look after his wife. Kate had major abdominal surgery on January 16 and spent two weeks in hospital before returning to Windsor to continue her recovery. She is unlikely to appear publicly until after Easter, Kensington Palace has said.
The King is resting at Sandringham House in Norfolk after receiving treatment as an out patient in London. He is not expected to carry out any public engagements for several weeks although he will continue with State duties such as red boxes and audiences with the Prime Minister. The King was due to have a call with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak this evening although aides said this was not in place of an audience and that audiences will resume in-person later this month. Yesterday, the Prime Minister gave the most specific information so far about the King's cancer and said it had been caught early.
Buckingham Palace has not said what kind of cancer the king has, and has made it clear they will not provide updates on his treatment unless deemed necessary.
