Princess Beatrice welcomes baby girl with nod to late Queen Elizabeth
Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have announced the birth of their second child together.
The couple have welcomed a baby girl, with her name revealed to be Athena Elizabeth Rose - and her moniker is thought to have a very special meaning.
Mapelli Mozzi shared the happy news with an Instagram post. “We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect,” he wrote, captioning a photo of Athena bundled up in a white babygro and pink blanket. “We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her.”
He added: “Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena. A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”

The royal family also confirmed the news with their own announcement shared to X. “The King and Queen, and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news,” the post read. “Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.”
Athena is a reference to the Ancient Greek deity of the same name, who was the goddess of war and wisdom. Elizabeth pays tribute to Beatrice’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Beatrice, whose own middle name is Elizabeth, previously nodded to the monarch by giving the same middle name to her first daughter, Sienna, who was born in September 2021. While the meaning behind Athena’s second middle name, Rose, has not publicly been disclosed, the flower tends to culturally signify beauty, passion, and love.
In addition to Athena and Sienna, Beatrice is also stepmother to eight-year-old Christopher Woolf, whom Mapelli Mozzi shares with his ex, Dara Huang.
