How Princess Diana inspired Duchess Meghan’s new hairstyle

It’s impossible for Duchess Meghan to fly under the radar now that she’s a member of the Royal Family. Whether it’s a new dress, an inspiring speech or a pair of borrowed earrings, the mother-to-be is always under the spotlight. But it’s been suspected that the duchess is taking after her husband’s mom, the late Princess Diana, when it comes to gradually changing up her hairstyle.

Eagle-eyed royal watchers may have noticed the Suits alum sporting a subtle new hairstyle over the Remembrance Day weekend. While stepping out in the evening on Remembrance Sunday , Meghan debuted a choppier look. It appeared that her hairstylist gave her some choppy layers to frame her face and help ease the transition into a new look without causing a frenzy! It’s a royal technique, often employed by her late mother-in-law, who never wanted something as trivial as her hairstyle to be the big story of the day.

The Princess of Wales was known for her beauty and fashion savvy, but also for her philanthropy and big heart – which is where she wanted to keep the attention, rather than on her looks. Her former hairdresser Richard Dalton opened up to Town and Country recently to explain the smart trick: “Whatever I did to her hair became front-page news. We had to be very careful. We had to do it one-fourth of an inch at a time over several weeks,” he explained. The stylist first met Diana when she was 17, and spent the next 12 years spending most days with her, according to the glossy.

George Northwood, the former actress’s go-to hairstylist, is likely the mastermind behind the pretty chop! He joined the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their first overseas royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga. Meghan donned several new hairstyles during her trip, like a half-up-half-down ‘do ( so chic! ) and a slicked-back ponytail . George has a royal history when it comes to styling hair, even having his way with the beautiful blond locks of Lady Amelia Windsor! The young royal told Harper’s Bazaar last month: “For my hair, I always go to George Northwood. Kat does my colour and she is a genius, and of course, so is George. They have the best team there and I always leave feeling refreshed. There is nothing better than leaving a salon with freshly cut hair, swishing it proudly all the way home.”
