Princess Kate pays her respects for Holocaust Memorial Day
The Prince and Princess of Wales honored Holocaust Memorial Day with a commemoration ceremony in London. The annual day of remembrance occurs each year on 27 January, and this occasion in particular marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the largest Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Kate dressed in all black for the sombre evening, opting for a structured floor-length coat that she wore over a jumper and high-waisted trousers. She continued the colour scheme with a quilted crossbody Chanel bag and elevated the ensemble with a five-strand necklace of gleaming white pearls. To match, she wore white pearl earrings embellished with diamonds. Pearls are seen as symbols of grief and purity, and are often worn by members of the royal family at meaningful events.
William also wore black in respect for the victims of the Holocaust. His ensemble included a classic suit, crisp white shirt, and a deep purple tie. Purple is regarded as the colour of Holocaust Memorial Day.
The Waleses lit candles during the ceremony in honor of the innocent lives lost in the Holocaust.
“So wonderful to see Holocaust survivors Steven Frank and Yvonne Bernstein, who were photographed by the Princess with their grandchildren back in 2020. It is so important to come together, learn both from and about the past, and to take actions to make a better future for all,” the royal couple wrote on X alongside a series of photos of them at the ceremony.
“A solemn moment of remembrance and hope for the future at today’s Holocaust Memorial Day service. Honoured to take part in this important event to commemorate the lives lost in the Holocaust and other genocides,” William and Kate wrote alongside a video of the event.
