Shearling-lined slippers, knitted hoods and snuggly faux fur coats… All the things to enjoy about dressing for cold weather, goosebumps aside. Yep, in case you haven’t left the house in the past week, winter has officially arrived in the UK. And judging by the rain and constant grey skies, it's here to stay. What better excuse to update your new season wardrobe?

Consider it perfect timing then, that Charlotte Simone’s latest drop of luxury coats adorned with the brand’s signature shaggy fur collar and cuffs lands imminently. Specifically, Wednesday 27 November at 8pm, and we’d advise setting your alarms. If the Insta-famous brand’s previous collections are anything to go by – in which 70% of all product sells out the same day of the launch, 50% in the first hour – there’s no time to waste.

Of course, the timing is far from coincidence. Like everything about British designer Charlotte Beacham’s label, it is an intentional decision that came about as a result of the pandemic. “Charlotte Simone had always worked to traditional timelines, releasing four collections a year with the support of its wholesale partners… It took it all crumbling down to make quick and difficult decisions,” Charlotte tells Cosmopolitan UK, citing it as the most exciting but simultaneously most challenging moment in the brand’s 10-year history.

“Our new drop model of releasing two ‘Winter Drops’ a year that are available for online purchase via our website for just one week allows us to focus on quality over quantity. Our ‘seasonless’ approach is what I’m most proud of. All styles are lovingly designed in London, crafted with care and produced in limited numbers to ensure a considered and small-scale production.”

10 months in the making, this latest drop consists of 15 jacket styles in both cropped and long-line silhouettes (plus a gilet!), oozing with a retro feel and low-effort glam factor that is uniquely Charlotte Simone. Customer favourites like the Olive (a wool design with Mongolian lambswool trims around the neck, hem and cuffs) repped by Charli XCX and the Lulu, recently worn by Emily Ratajkowski in a bright cherry red hue, return. The designs all tie together thanks to a gorgeous colour palette dominated by warm shades of chocolate brown and playful animal prints that tap into some of autumn winter AW24’s biggest fashion trends.

The drop also includes a scarf design. After all, it was with scarves that this whole adventure began. Attending New York University in Manhattan and living her best Gossip Girl life, Charlotte says, “It all started with a doodle and a dream during my first year of University.”

She never imagined she’d wind up here. “I wish I could tell my younger self that it’s all worth it! Don’t give up, don’t lose hope and momentum. Chin up and keep on going. Good things come to those who work hard and believe.”

For Charlotte, it didn’t take long. Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber were both photographed with the rainbow-hued fluffy ‘Popsicle’ scarves draped over their shoulders, with Rita Ora soon following suit and going on to become the face of the brand – almost accidentally. “We met through my friend and stylist Kyle Devole. Rita loved the brand and gave herself for the day, just because she loved it and wanted to! It was such a pinch-me moment and catapulted Charlotte Simone into the public eye all those years ago now.”

More recently, celebrities including Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Priyanka Chopra and Florence Pugh have all repped Charlotte Simone coats. Is there anyone Charlotte would love to see in her clothes? “Lena Dunham. She is an absolute trailblazer, everything she touches turns to gold. Oh, and Celine Dion!” she adds. “I am a huge Celine Dion fan, I’ve seen her live three times that’s how much of a fan-girl I am. I would love to see Celine in a Charlotte Simone coat.” We couldn’t agree more.

As for what the future holds, “I think a bag will be next,” Charlotte says. “It’s been in conversation for a while… But in an already crowded marketplace, I would need to feel it’s delivering something different. I’m hopeful we’ll get there one day as I would love to expand slowly into more accessories.”
