Night Lark coverless duvet review: the pros

Plumpness and shape

When I first took my coverless duvet out of the duffle bag and popped it on the bed (I have the 10.5 tog white seersucker option in a double), I was seriously impressed with how plump it looked.

I've since washed it five times and, so far, it hasn't lost its shape. The Fine Bedding Company claims this is due to the lightweight fibres and distinctive wave seams that keep it looking plump.

Lightweight and breathable

Compared to my previous 'feels like down' duvet, the Night Lark coverless duvet is super lightweight. When tucked up in bed, it doesn't feel heavy and doesn't lead to overheating at night.

Easy to wash

I was sceptical about whether Night Lark's coverless duvet would be as easy to wash as it claims – would it really fit in the machine? Well, I have a 9kg washer-dryer and can confirm that my 10.5 tog double duvet fits in a treat.

It does fill the whole machine, so I wouldn't suggest trying to wash it with other items of clothing or sheets.

Hygienic

Something I love about coverless duvets is that they are more hygienic than traditional ones. According to our friends over at Good Housekeeping, duvets should be washed every three to four months, and if you're not doing this, you're technically sleeping with a dirty duvet even if the cover is clean.

I'll admit that duvets probably don't get washed as much as they should in my house, so it's nice to know I'm now sleeping with a fresh duvet each week.

Makes changing the sheets a breeze

Perhaps the biggest selling point of a coverless duvet: it really does make changing the sheets a breeze. If, like me, you struggle with putting duvet covers onto duvets (anyone else end up standing on the bed with arms everywhere?), you can wave goodbye to this with a coverless duvet.

The whole process takes much less time – simply shake out, lay over the mattress and voila, you're done.

Night Lark coverless duvet review: the cons

Drying time

My washer-dryer tends to take a long time to dry things (especially heavy loads) so my coverless duvet did take closer to the two-hour mark to dry – rather than the claimed 90 minutes.

Obviously, this is costly if done weekly, but you can opt to wash it in the morning and hang it outside to dry (which should take no longer than a day if it's sunny).

Night Lark coverless duvet review: the verdict

I'll admit, I struggled to find any real cons when reviewing Night Lark's coverless duvet. It's easy to wash and dry, super comfy, stays plump and it makes changing the bedding so much easier.

Having said that, I've only been the proud owner of a coverless duvet for a handful of months, so I'll continue to update my review over the next year with any new findings. But for now, I am most certainly a convert.
