Queen Camilla Gives Health Update on King Charles: He Is "Fine"
The British royal family is dealing with an unprecedented double health scare, as Kate Middleton is hospitalized following a planned abdominal surgery and King Charles is set to undergo a prostate procedure next week.
Today, Queen Camilla carried out her first engagement of 2024, visiting Aberdeen Art Gallery to open a Safe Space, and while there, she was asked about her husband's health. In response, the Queen said, "He’s fine, thank you very much. Looking forward to getting back to work." It was the first time a member of the royal family spoke on the health news.
Yesterday, Buckingham Palace released a short statement that read, ""In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation."
It's as yet unclear when he'll return to work, but he had to cancel planned meetings and events this week, ahead of the procedure.
Charles is currently at his home in Birkhall in Aberdeenshire, as part of his plan to spend the month in Scotland. The home is said to be a favorite residence of Charles, after he inherited from Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother upon her passing in 2002—in fact, it's where Charles and Camilla spent their honeymoon in 2005.
Buckingham Palace has not yet shared where Charles's procedure will take place, and if he will remain in Scotland.
Meanwhile, Prince William was pictured visiting Kate at the London Clinic today, where Kensington Palace shared she will remain for up to two weeks. In their statement, they said, "She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."
