Queen Camilla Reveals She Adopted a New Rescue Puppy
Last November, Buckingham Palace announced the sad news that Queen Camilla’s beloved pet rescue dog Beth had died. However, today the Queen has revealed that she recently adopted a new pet called Moley who is also a rescue pup.
“I’ve just got a new puppy who’s eight weeks old,” Camilla told a member of the public during an outing today in Canterbury, southeast England. When asked what kind of dog, she replied, “Well, you may well ask! It’s a bit of everything. It’s a rescue dog…Called Moley, looks just like a mole!” The exchange was captured on video and posted online by the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English. T&C understands that Moley is a female puppy from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home whose mother is half Jack Russell.
Queen Camilla was on a solo outing today to unveil a statue of Canterbury-born writer Aphra Behn. The 17th century playwright is considered to be the first professional female writer in the English language. She was also recruited by King Charles II as a spy and sent on a mission to Antwerp. The Queen has a strong interest in reading and literacy. Her friend Gyles Brandreth is President of the Aphra Behn Society and read one of Behn’s poems at the event today.
As well as her new pup Moley, Camilla also still has rescue dog Bluebell, who was adopted from the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Beth and Bluebell were embroidered in golden thread on her Bruce Oldfield coronation gown.
Beth was discovered to have an untreatable tumor last year. After she died, Buckingham Palace posted several images on social media on November 18, with the caption, “A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire.”
