Queen Camilla Wore One of Queen Elizabeth's Signature Tiaras at a Buckingham Palace Reception

Festive season is in full swing for the royal family, and among a slew of holiday events, the royals are also glamming things up tonight at a reception for members of the Diplomatic Corps at the royal residence. The celebration is traditionally held annually (the event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic) to honor ambassadors and representatives of countries accredited to the Court of St. James. Last year marked the first time that the reception was hosted since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the first since King Charles became monarch.

For the event tonight, Camilla chose an embroidered cream-colored evening gown by Fiona Clare, paired with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The tiara, in particular, was closely associated with Camilla's mother-in-law, the late Queen Elizabeth II—it was originally owned by Queen Mary, who received it as a wedding present, and later carried on the tradition, gifting it to her granddaughter, the future Queen Elizabeth, for her own wedding in 1947.

Elizabeth turned to the piece frequently, and was even depicted on coins and banknotes sporting the glittering topper. Camilla wore the piece for the first time this October (see above) when she and King Charles attended a dinner at Mansion House, the home of the Lord Mayor of London, in honor of their coronation.
