Queen Elizabeth has been wearing the same nail polish for nearly 30 years

Old habits die hard — even for royalty!

Kate Middleton’s been wearing the same boots for over 10 years, Princess Diana was never without a carefully coordinated clutch (and for good reason), and Queen Elizabeth II owns more than 200 Laurer purses.

But it turns out Her Majesty also favours one other thing.

The 91-year-old monarch’s nail polish of choice is Essie’s “Ballet Slippers,” a pale pink shade with a sheer finish that costs only $9 CAD.

According to Essie, the brand received the royal stamp of approval in 1989 when Queen Elizabeth’s hairdresser penned a letter to founder Essie Weingarten requesting that a bottle of the polish be sent to Buckingham Palace. The timeless shade has been the only colour to grace Her Majesty’s fingernails since.

And it appears the brand has more than one royal fan. Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton wore a similar pale pink hue from Essie called “Allure” on her wedding day.

“Ballet Slippers” is still available in Essie’s line today and is one of the brand’s most popular shades, with 30 bottles sold every hour in the U.S alone, according to Essie.
