Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Favors Monochromatic Dressing in Blue Oscar de la Renta Look With Statement Florals

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands wholly embraced statement florals with her recent royal engagement. The monarch attended the launch of Amsterdams Stagepact MBO at Capital C on April 9 in the Netherlands’ capital.

For the occasion, Queen Maxima fashioned a long-sleeve day dress with floral embroidery by Oscar de la Renta with an A-line silhouette. The navy blue frock featured a white lace embroidered floral design on the sleeve and skirt. The royal paired the look with a matching hat and a pair of navy pumps.

Florals are a seasonal favorite of Queen Maxima, who fashioned a similar motif for King Charles III’s coronation last year. Queen Maxima looked to Dutch designer Jan Taminiau for her ensemble. The Dutch royal wore a bespoke white dress with cutout floral doily-like detailing around her neckline. The A-line silhouette also featured a rope tassel belt. She coordinated the ensemble with a matching asymmetrical saucer hat, gloves and wore a pair of nude pointed-toe pumps to complete the look.

Queen Maxima’s reverence for fashion extends far beyond her royal wardrobe. Last November, she offered remarks at the inauguration of the Iris van Herpen retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Speaking in French, Queen Maxima celebrated van Herpen as a “Dutch artist of the very first order” and “the woman who gave a new dimension to fashion, whose every dress is an adventure and an enigma.”

While royal fashion is often synonymous with traditional elegance, Queen Maxima’s latest engagement demonstrates how royals can inject their own sense of individuality into their wardrobe. As the season continues to unfold, florals are more than likely to make a few more appearances, whether they are worn by celebrities or European royalty in the months ahead.
