The Real Reason Why Marie Osmond Is Leaving 'The Talk'

From Good Housekeeping

  • Marie Osmond is leaving the CBS daytime show The Talk after one season as c0-host.

  • Season 11 of The Talk will resume production later this month, but it's unclear who will replace Marie.

On September 2, Marie Osmond announced that she would be leaving the CBS daytime program The Talk after one season.

Her departure from the show comes just a year after Marie joined The Talk cast, replacing co-host and show creator Sara Gilbert who left the show at the end of season 9 to spend more time with her family and focus on producing and starring in the ABC show The Conners.

"Marie is a consummate professional, and we thank her for sharing her personal experiences, insight, as well as incredible talents, with our audience," CBS said in an exclusive statement to Deadline. "We will miss her humor, kindness and good nature, and wish her much success in her future endeavors."

The real reason why Marie Osmond is leaving The Talk ...

Marie, 60, doesn't appear to be walking away because of any drama with the show — rather, it looks like she's taking the opportunity to work on other projects, including a new show with ViacomCBS, and enjoying time with her husband Steve Craig in their newly empty nest.

Longtime executive producer and showrunner John Redmann is also leaving the show after 10 seasons, and it looks like he and Marie will be collaborating on new endeavors.

On social media, Marie posted:

One of the highlights of my year at The Talk was working with my dear friend John Redmann (former EP and showrunner) and I’m excited to continue our working relationship on several projects we are developing. Also, my husband and I just dropped our last two kids off at college, we looked at each other, laughed and remembered we hadn’t been this alone together since 1982!! So, at this stage of my life, I’m looking forward to spending more time with him and visiting all the kids/grandkids.

Earlier this year, amid the coronavirus pandemic, The Talk was revamped as The Talk @ Home, with the hosts broadcasting via Zoom from their respective homes. The last episode of Season 10 aired on August 4th, which featured some emotional reflections on the unique circumstances of the season from Marie.

"Being the newbie it has been a great blessing for to be able to do this show with all of you and it's been a really wonderful blessing to be able to do it at home," she said. "I have looked forward to that everyday routine that's helped me keep a positive attitude and positive outlook amidst all this craziness that we're living through."

As she continued she became choked up, saying:

"I want to say a big thank you to the audience, we have an amazing audience ... and especially I way to say a huge thank you — I get emotional — this is the best staff I have ever worked with. The things that go on behind the scenes and how hard everyone has worked is so awe-inspiring ... you are an amazing family and I am thrilled to be a part of it. I love you ladies and thank you CBS, thank you Viacom for this opportunity."

Who will replace Marie Osmond on The Talk?

According to Deadline, The Talk is expected to begin production on season 11 later this month with the remaining co-hosts — and a replacement for Marie will be named at a later date. So far, Marie's co-hosts Sharon Osbourne, Eve, Sheryl Underwood, and Carrie Ann Inaba have yet to comment on her departure.
