"Try to buy secondhand to find unique pieces, and don’t buy anything that you don’t absolutely love, just because it fits your space’s vibe," Júlia advises. Credit: Júlia Segarra Credit: Júlia Segarra

ABOUT THIS TOUR

HOME TYPE: Apartment

LOCATION: El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain

STYLE: Eclectic, Vintage

BEDROOMS: 2

SQUARE FEET: 675

This is the first home Júlia has lived in on her own. “Moving out of your parent’s house at this age is not very common in Spain because it is extremely expensive, but I consider the best-spent money every month [to be] my rent,” she begins of the 675-square-foot rental apartment in Barcelona’s El Prat de Llobregat neighborhood.

“This means I did not have all the budget I’d like to spend on furnishing and decor, but that doesn’t mean I can’t create a home I absolutely love. I buy secondhand, I DIY IKEA pieces, and I spend a ridiculous amount of time searching for every item, and this allowed me to create a space I love spending my time in,” she continues of the space she describes as “dopamine, personal, retro, energetic.”

Júlia says people ask her what her home style is and which “rules” she follows to make all the different things in her home since “it’s a mix of styles, colors, and weird items. I always answer: I just buy things that I love, and that is what they have in common. I just find the way to place them together, and it always ends up looking good and interesting. However, as it’s a small house, I have always to keep in mind functionality and not over-cluttering.”
