This Renter Stashes the Coffee Table in an Unusual Spot During Dinner Parties

Sarah Dyer has rented this 400-square-foot studio in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood for eight years and says the apartment was a blank slate when she moved in.
“I had toured SEVERAL nearby available apartments before seeing this one, and some were downright soul-crushing with minimal natural light. One apartment I toured even had a mini fridge jammed into a bathroom hallway, which was not, in fact, the vibe I was going for,” she begins. “When I first toured this apartment, I LOVED the large windows letting in so much natural light as well as the dedicated kitchen space. With such little square footage, a great layout made all the difference!”
Sarah bought two of the previous tenant’s pieces of furniture: “a tiny kitchen table that fit the nook perfectly, as well as a gray, mid-century couch.” But furniture’s not the only thing she got from the studio’s former dweller: “One of the coolest things about the apartment is that I am now friends with the former tenant, so she will come over from time to time for a dinner party or girls night and hang out in her former apartment.”
It’s amazing that Sarah finds a way to host in her small space, and it takes her getting creative to do it. “I’m part of a cookbook club, and we take turns hosting dinner parties each month. When it’s my turn to host, I put my coffee table upright in my shower (you read that right), which makes enough room for my folding dining table and chairs.”
