Replace your car’s hood with a cooler, lighter carbon fiber model
Does your car’s hood feel old or outdated? Now, you can update it yourself. In this episode of ITK: Glow Up Garage, our host Anatalia Villaranda (@anataliav) shows us how to replace an old hood with a carbon fiber model that’s cooler, lighter and more modern. Carbon fiber is lighter than typical fiberglass car hoods, and that weight reduction can make your car go faster. “It may seem intimidating to do, but it’s actually super easy and simple for beginners,” Anatalia says.
Here’s how to do a carbon fiber hood glow-up yourself:
Tools
Impact ratchet
10-millimeter socket
12-millimeter socket
Instructions
1. The first step is to locate the bolts holding the existing hood in place. Loosen the bolts and then remove them using the impact ratchet. Then, repeat the step on the other side. “Remember, whenever we take any part off the car, we have to remember where we put it,” Anatalia advises.
2. Next, it’s time to swap the old hood for the new carbon fiber one. Match the new hood’s brackets to the car’s bolts and hand-tighten them before using the impact ratchet to secure. Repeat this step on the other side.
