Meghan Markle Was Seen Crying During the Queen's Funeral
Members of the British royal family bid farewell to their matriarch, Queen Elizabeth II, today in a somber funeral service held at Westminster Abbey, and some were understandably emotional during the process.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, shed a few tears while standing next to Prince Harry as they and other royal family members observed the queen's coffin as it was transferred from the gun carriage to the hearse at Wellington Arch following the service.
ABC News reported in its livestream of the funeral that King Charles III was also seen with tears on his face during the intense ceremony. Photos of the procession of the queen's coffin to the abbey also showed the king looking visibly upset.
"I never thought I would be moved as much as I was, but being so up close and personal to the coffin, seeing the grief on Charles' face, it really hit home," Hsien Chew, an MBE (The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) recipient and funeral attendee, told People.
Brothers Prince William and Prince Harry walked next to each other behind Queen Elizabeth's coffin, following after their father and the rest of the queen's children, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.
Harry, who was photographed wiping away tears during a procession of the monarch's casket last week, appeared extremely somber with his head hung low.
At one moment, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, was photographed wiping her face, aswell.
Prior to the funeral, King Charles expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of global tributes dedicated to the queen.
"Over the last ten days, my wife and I have been so deeply touched by the many messages of condolence and support we have received from this country and across the world," the sovereign said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace yesterday. "In London, Edinburgh, Hillsborough and Cardiff we were moved beyond measure by everyone who took the trouble to come and pay their respects to the lifelong service of my dear mother, The late Queen."
He concluded the note, "As we all prepare to say our last farewell, I wanted simply to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those countless people who have been such a support and comfort to my Family and myself in this time of grief."
