Ryan Reynolds's COVID-19 PSA Is Signature Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds Said He and Blake Lively are Sorry for Their Plantation Wedding

It's the first time either of them have publicly addressed the controversy.

Contrary to what some people may think — and their actions show — the world is still dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. To keep people from pretending that nothing's going on, British Columbia's Premier, John Horgan, enlisted some hometown heroes to urge young people to stop partying in British Columbia. Horgan called on famous Vancouver heroes Seth Rogen and Ryan Reynolds to get young folk to stay inside and think of the other people being affected by their recklessness. Reynolds, naturally, offered a joke-riddled message to the citizens of B.C., telling them, frankly, not to kill his mom.

"I'm not sure it's a great idea, frankly. People, I don't think they want medical advice from guys like me, no sir," Reynolds said in a recorded message shared by Horgan. "Unless it's plastic surgery. Which, a lot of people don't know this, but I used to be Hugh Jackman."

Reynolds went on to explain that people should be aware that their parties have a ripple effect, since COVID-19 can spread whether or not someone has symptoms and parties bring people together, which goes against the ideas of social distancing, something that's proven to be effective in slowing the spread of the virus.

"Young folks in B.C., they're partying," Reynolds continued. "Which is, of course, dangerous. They probably don’t know that thousands of young people aren't just getting sick from coronavirus, that they're also dying from it, too."

Then, the jokes came. He told party-goers that they could inadvertently kill his mother or David Suzuki, the famed Canadian science broadcaster.

"And of course, it's terrible that it affects our most vulnerable," he added. "B.C., that's home to some of the coolest older people on Earth. I mean, David Suzuki, he lives there. My mom! She doesn't want to be cooped up in her apartment all day. She wants to be out there cruising Kitsilano Beach looking for some young 30-something Abercrombie burnout to go full Mrs. Robinson on. She is insatiable."

And he tossed in a jab about his wife, too, saying that a great way to party was to soak in every single episode of Gossip Girl.

"I love parties," he finished. "My favorite thing to do is sit alone with a glass of gin and the first 32 seasons of Gossip Girl. That's a party."
