While it feels like we just geared up for cooking a big meal filled with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pies for Thanksgiving, Christmas is nearly here and it’s time to do it all again. Maybe you’re a purist and love to eat the same holiday foods twice a year. Or perhaps you’re skipping dinner this year and making an elaborate Christmas breakfast. Whatever the case may be, you’ll need to plan your grocery list ahead of time to make sure you have everything you need.

In the event that something slips through the cracks, you may have to run out for an item or two on the actual holiday. While many stores will be closed, will Safeway be open on Christmas Day?

The answer is a bit complicated: yes and no. It depends on the store, as confirmed by a Safeway representative. Some Safeway stores will be open while others will be closed, so it’s best to reach out to your local store to confirm their operating hours. Stores may also close early on Christmas Eve, with many operating on a 6 a.m. — 8 p.m. schedule. Regardless of whether your local Safeway is open or not, it’s probably best to prepare ahead to err on the side of caution.

Plus, Safeway has plenty of holiday deals on staple ingredients to get you on your way. You could shop their holiday value bundle which includes smoked boneless ham, green beans, baby carrots, mini baby gold potatoes, Hawaiian sweet rolls, and a pumpkin pie. (Consider your meal plan sorted!)

Want to build upon it? Add one of our fan-favorite side dishes into the mix. You can’t go wrong with our ooey, gooey homemade mac and cheese or try something a little different with these cheesy French onion scalloped potatoes.

If you’re planning on doing any holiday baking, we’ve obviously got you covered as well. We’ve created some delectable holiday cookies that you’ll want to make every year on repeat, like these Christmas cowboy cookies or hot cocoa marshmallow sandwiches

If you don’t feel like cooking, don’t worry — Safeway caters! Simply choose which items you’d like, order ahead, and Christmas dinner is served. (You can choose from a homestyle turkey, spiral ham, or prime rib dinner.) Finally, finish the meal off with a fun and festive dessert with some of Safeway’s winter specials like a melted snowman mini cake, penguin cupcake pull-apart cake, or gingerbread double layer cake.
