Salehe Bembury's Juniper Croc is Landing in the UKCrocs

Salehe Bembury is being a bit of an Insta parent.

The zany Tribeca-born designer recently welcomed a new arrival into the Crocs Pollex collection. It's a collab with the comfy footwear label that is largely inspired by the intricacies of a fingerprint, hence the name: Pollex, meaning the innermost digit of a forelimb, especially the thumb in primates.

The Juniper sneaker is just as unconventionally handsome as its siblings, the Crocs Pollex Clog (the first product born from the collaboration) and the Crocs Pollex Slide (a real summer baby). But the new shoe has a utilitarian streak the others lack: it's the first in the family that transcends 'lifestyle' status. The billboard tagline is: “the outdoors is yours.” Elsewhere, it's been called a “a utilitarian exploration of form & function” and “an accessible silhouette” built by bringing form, function and self-expression together”.

All of which suggests that this is one very well-built shoe.

“It really does wrap around my foot,” says popular sneaker YouTuber Seth Fowler in his video review of the rubbery, meshy, foamy sneaker.

His in-depth coverage made me realise, actually, that this is the spiritual successor of the game-changing Yeezy Boost 350 (a big compliment). It's exactly what the sneaker community has been looking for: concurrently unusual, useful, sporty, chic, comfortable and futuristic.

Fowler, along with a few thousand other on-the-ball, plugged-in American sneakerphiles, managed to get a pair of the OG colourway – 'guava' – back in May on Bembury's Be A Spunge webstore. Unfortunately, the site doesn't offer delivery outside the States; the only people who own a pair of the trainer model on this side of the Atlantic are those who copped via a resale platform like StockX. Those who can stomach the marked-up prices.

But news just in from Crocs changes everything: its official UK webstore will be stocking the second colourway of the shoes – 'tahiti' (a soft, versatile colourway that I genuinely actually prefer to 'guava') this weekend.

And we reckon there will be quite a few pairs up for grab. At £135, which I'd consider a come-at-able price. I, for one, will be coming at them with all my might. (London Fashion Week is just around the corner; these shoes are the just the right amount of wacky for the front row.)

I shall also be after the silhouette's Irish Twin, the Crocs Pollex Cypress Boot – which Bembury unveiled last month on where else but Instagram – when it also eventually arrives on Crocs.co.uk.

I initially thought it was quite literally a high-top version of the Juniper. (To be fair, their biomorphic soles are very similar.)

My drafted comment read: 'They grow up so fast! 🥹🧸❤️'.

The Salehe Bembury x Crocs Juniper 'tahini' lands on the Crocs UK webstore on Saturday 13 September.
