Sam Smith Brings Drama to the Fashion Awards 2023 in Custom Looks From Andreas Kronthaler and Vivienne Westwood
Sam Smith arrived on the red carpet for the Fashion Awards 2023 on Monday in London, donning a head-to-toe black custom Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood ensemble, including a black jacket with silver military buttons and statement shoulder pads and sleeves, paired with a gray undershirt and black miniskirt. Smith accessorized the look with a statement belt and a miniature handbag featuring the Vivienne Westwood Saturn logo, completing the look with black platform block heel boots. For jewelry, they wore earrings from Pragnelli.
The pop star was the recipient of this year’s Cultural Innovator Award at the Fashion Awards 2023. The look was just one of Smith’s two Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood looks that night. To receive their award, Smith paid homage to the late Vivienne Westwood, wearing a gown with a cascading train in black silk taffeta and voluminous stole in semi-sheer black tulle and super elevated platform boots in black leather.

To create their look for this year’s Fashion Awards, Smith worked with stylist Ben Reardon. Reardon previously worked with Smith on their album cover for “Love Goes” and their single cover for “Diamonds.”
The big winners of the 2023 Fashion Awards included Jonathan Anderson for Designer of the Year, Sarah Burton for the Special Recognition Award, Valentino Garavani for the Outstanding Achievement Award and Martine Rose for British Menswear Designer of the Year.
The evening was presented by Maya Jama, famous as the host of the ITV2 show “Love Island,” and singer-songwriter Kojey Radical. The guest list included Jodie Comer, Taylor Russell, Andrew Garfield, Marina Abramović and Amal Clooney.
In April during their “Gloria” world tour, Smith made a sociopolitical cultural statement when they wore a headpiece with Brianna Ghey’s name on it. Ghey was a transgender teen murdered in February in London. The trial, which is currently underway, is also being investigated as a potential hate crime.
