Sami Miró Vintage Spring 2024

Sami Miró, a CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, showed her first runway collection, titled “Zero Waste,” at New York Fashion Week on Saturday in Chelsea.

Her upcycled clothing brand Sami Miró Vintage has been embraced by Hollywood style setters Selena Gomez, Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Cardi B. As a social media influencer, Miró has already been on the runway show circuit, and posted paid ads of herself promoting Louis Vuitton, Coach, Burberry, Dior, Mytheresa, Farfetch and many more.

The look: Skin-baring and DIY-deconstructed.

Key pieces: The simpler the better, including capelets made from reworked blazers and jersey separates with her signature open seams, including a black zip-front jacket and baggy trousers set.

Quote of note: “A conscious path in fashion. A less waste is more future, that is zero waste,” as heard in the show’s voiceover. “We choose to thread a story of transformation, inspiration, and a commitment to a brighter, more sustainable future.”

The verdict: Miró has great personal style, a flair for marketing, a growing business and a vital passion for sustainability, as she expressed while cutting one of her looks live on the runway, transforming a pair of black pants pooling at the ankles into shorts with tails to demonstrate the potential of upcycling in fashion. But many of the looks were overdesigned and could have used more polish, even when made from scraps.
