Sasha Obama Is a Crochet Queen While Hanging at a Los Angeles Park

Sasha Obama is showing us how important hobbies are — especially fashion ones. This past week, the 23-year-old was seen out at Everett Park in Los Angeles crocheting a multi-colored patterned design.
Over the years, the former first daughter has become a fashion darling in her own right, so her also being a crochet queen just makes sense. While she tends to lead a very private adult life, the small moments we do see her outside, she's leaning into all of our favorite fashion trends. Previously, while attending a Charli XCX concert alongside her sister Malia, Sasha wore an over-sized chunky belt reminiscent of the early 2000s. She is also known for her flowy skirts and bohemian aesthetic, which always work perfectly with her signature goddess knotless braids.

Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesCrocheting is a popular hobby that has captured the hearts of many for generations. More recently, we've seen young people all over TikTok taking up the popular pastime because of its relaxing nature and multi-purpose use. Not only is it a fun hobby, but you get to make yourself one-of-a-kind clothes and accessories. It also can double as gifts for friends.
This craft uses a hooked needle to interlock yarn into varying patterns, creating everything from cozy blankets to beautiful clothing. The hobby dates back to the early 1900s and the term "crochet" comes from the French word for "hook." What makes crocheting so appealing is its versatility. You can create simple scarves or more complex garments with ease, making it perfect for all skill levels. Plus, it's portable, making it an ideal activity for when you're on the go.
So, it's no wonder Sasha Obama was seen crocheting at the park — the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sun — while having the ultimate creative outlet. If she ever decides to start her own crochet club à la Ella Emhoff's knitting one, we'd be the first ones in line to join!
