Not a fan of dry shampoo? Now there’s a new way to get rid of greasy roots – without drying out your scalp.

PonyDry was developed by Jessica Watson, a Toronto-based entrepreneur and mother who was sick of wasting time washing her long hair every day.

“I created PonyDry as a solution for women with long hair who love their length but hate how long it takes to wash, dry, and style,” she said in a press release. "Like most women with long hair, I often looked for shortcuts to speed up my routine but many products just left a sticky residue on my scalp.“

The PonyDry is basically a waterproof sack designed to protect the ends of your hair while you shower.

To use, first put your hair in a ponytail and then insert it into the the pouch.

Next, tighten the strings at the base of your pony and wrap with the elastic so it is snug.

Twist wrapped hair into a bun and secure.

For the last step, simply shower as normal, shampooing only the roots.

I’ll admit, I have some initial concerns about how easy it is to wash your roots while it’s in a ponytail – won’t the shampoo be difficult to rinse out? And I’m curious as to how the wrap will fare against humidity. But, according to the company, 70 per cent of women who trialled the PonyDry claimed it saved them a “significant amount of time” getting ready in the morning. Of those, 60 per cent said it improved the condition of their hair after using it for six weeks.
