Fashion is all about pushing boundaries, being creative and looking forward to what’s new and exciting. Sometimes trends take hold of the public’s attention and stick around for years (think athleisure or streetwear), and other times they’re, well, just plain confusing.
I’ve been drawn to the denim world since I first started working in retail when I was 16, so I’ve seen my fair share of trends come and go, and recently while scrolling through my email I came upon a pair of jeans that really caught my attention - the Natasha Zinko Double Waist Asymmetric Jeans, retailing for $925 at Shopbop.
At first I was shocked at both the price and the double-denim design, but after digging around online it turns out the Ukranian designer has actually been selling pairs of double-waisted jeans for years and the trend is just now starting to catch on. The acid-wash jeans combine two denim styles into one pair, bringing together a high-waisted insert panel and a low-rise main design.
Zinko’s jeans not only offer a new take on double denim, but also seem to have inspired other designers with her inventive new design. I’ve come across multiple pairs of similar double-waisted pairs of jeans on the market, so for the early adopters looking for the absolute newest designs, you’ll find them thanks to brands like Maison Margiela, Sandro and Aries.
Despite the odd look of the double waistband, these jeans might actually be functional if you’re looking for extra storage space. With seven pockets, the Double Waist Asymmetric Jeans have plenty of space for your phone, wallet, keys and other daily essentials.
Although they do seem a little strange for everyday wear, these double-waisted jeans are actually selling out, with only three sizes left in stock on Shopbop.
