Scarlett Johansson embodied classic elegance at the 2025 Oscars
Scarlett Johansson looked like Hollywood royalty at the 97th Academy Awards.
The actress walked the red carpet at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood wearing a velvet Mugler gown in deep navy. The piece had a plunging cowl neckline, and Johansson wore it with matching opera gloves and diamond jewellery by De Beers, including a romantic necklace with a large centre stone and drop earrings.
Johansson has had a long and prolific career in film. She has given us Lost in Translation (2003), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), Her (2013), Marriage Story (2019), among many others. She is currently the highest-grossing box-office female star of all time and has received various accolades, including a BAFTA Award for Lost in Translation and a Tony Award for her performance in Broadway’s A View From the Bridge. In 2020, she was nominated for two Oscars — for her roles in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit — becoming only the 12th actor ever to be nominated for two acting Oscars in the same year, though unfortunately she went home empty-handed.
Last night, the movie star attended the Oscars not as a nominee but as a presenter.
Johansson was joined in her presenter role by some of last year’s acting category winners: Emma Stone (Poor Things), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers), Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer), and Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer).
Oscar winners and nominees from earlier years, like herself, also reemerged as presenters. These included her Vicky Cristina Barcelona costar Penélope Cruz, as well as Harrison Ford, Whoopi Goldberg, John Lithgow, Goldie Hawn, Ana de Armas, Andrew Garfield, Sterling K. Brown, Samuel L. Jackson, Oprah Winfrey and Halle Berry.
Performers from this year’s nominated films also appeared as presenters. These included Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown), Bowen Yang (Wicked), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez), and Joe Alwyn (The Brutalist).
