This scratch kitchen fuses Sante Fe flavors, Tex-Mex staples and classic Mexican cuisine
Mí Día From Scratch has been in business in North Texas since 2011, but in case you’ve never been or just haven’t tried it out yet, here’s what you need to know.
The Santa Fe-inspired scratch kitchen has three locations: Grapevine, Plano and Flower Mound.
In Grapevine I pulled into a completely full parking lot and I knew my lunch was going to be good. I mean, for a Tuesday lunch hour, this place had a short wait that people were willing to endure.
The food is all made from scratch with high quality ingredients, blending Tex-Mex, Santa Fe and classic Mexican flavors. Each dish draws directly from Chef Gabriel DeLeon’s multi-generational family recipes rooted in Mexico, according to the restaurant.
A large tequila tower stands right in the middle of the restaurant (green flag No. 1), housing only 100% blue agave tequila. (I did not try any cocktails, but they are award-winning.)
Mí Día is not your typical cantina. The restaurant has tableside guac where you can control the spice level and even add in bacon. I will now always add bacon to my guac. The menu is also broken up into different dishes inspired by various Mexican cuisines.

One section labeled “Santa Fe” includes dishes that feature various chiles and smoky flavors. All street tacos are served on house-made tortillas with a side of poblano green rice and black refried beans. And, on top of the Tex-Mex staples like enchiladas, fajitas and chimichangas, Mí Día also offers a salmon dish and Codorniz, also known as common quail.
The menu has much to choose from, but here is what my taste buds were blessed with.
A brief review of Mí Día From Scratch Kitchen
Currently, Mí Día also features a special hatch chile menu that will be available until the end of August. I did not order from the limited-time menu but I still did enjoy the Hatch tacos. These were from the Santa Fe portion of the menu, which features differentchiles depending on the season.
As I took my seat, the table was already set with tortilla chips and red and green salsa (green flag No. 2). I also decided to indulge in both the Chile Con Queso and Tableside Guacamole.
The queso was deliciously spicy. It was not nacho-cheesy flavored like your typical Tex-Mex queso. The guacamole could have been my whole meal. As the wait staff wheeled the guac cart toward the table, four avocados made up the freshest pestle of guacamole complete with the salty bacon. This is a must have.
The Hatch tacos were the perfect size on a soft blue corn tortilla. These tortillas were so amazingly fresh. The tacos were stuffed with juicy skirt steak that was doused in a red and green pepper marinade. The salty queso fresco on top was a great contrast.
That was all I had room for, with leftovers to take home. My wonderful waitress, Melissa, boxed up my chips and dips, and food at the table and sent me on my way. I left already wanting to come back.
