Earlier this week, Selena Gomez was photographed yachting with friends around Australia’s Sydney Harbour. The paparazzi photos show Gomez rocking a bikini, with scars from her recent surgery on display (Gomez, who suffers from lupus, underwent a kidney transplant during the summer).

Although many celebrated her recovery, there’s been a fair amount of body shaming online, with some critics making fun of her scars and apparent “weight gain.”

But the 25-year-old star wasn’t about to let trolls get the best of her — and so she posted a perfect clap back on Instagram.

“The beauty myth — an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty,” she wrote.

“I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails.”
