As I’ve gotten older and more secure in my sense of self, I realized one very important thing: I love to dress up!
Ever since my wardrobe switched from classic beige neutrals, chunky dad sneakers and tiny sunglasses to flirty puff sleeves, bows and all of the headbands, I’ve been significantly happier. I also love myself more. Who knew? (My therapist, that’s who.)
The brand that exemplifies pretty much my entire sense of style now is none other than the viral brand Selkie. Started in Los Angeles by Kimberley Gordon, the ready-to-wear Selkie brand is fanciful, nostalgic and extra romantic. Per the brand, each collection “tells a story and presents a dreamy world through its imagery.” With sizes XXS-5X, every piece is made for everyone to keep basically forever.
Selkie prides itself on being a low-waste company that doesn’t contribute to landfills. It does this by producing small inventories of styles to test the success of items, then using pre-sale to predict how much to buy on popular styles for future rounds. It’s earnestly awesome.
Since I love nothing more than scrolling through pretty things and online window shopping while I wait for my next paycheck, I put together a list of the dreamiest Selkie dresses that are currently comfortably sitting in my cart. Scroll through them below!
Selkie Rapunzel Puff Dress, $295
How dreamy is this Victorian-inspired floral print? Also, the puff chiffon silhouette and charming babydoll waist are to die for.
Selkie Boleyn Dress, $269
I have been completely obsessed with Anne Boleyn ever since I learned how to read, so clearly I’m obsessed with this Anne Boleyn Selkie dress. Plus, the tiered ruffles and long puff sleeves are so flattering.
Selkie The Moonlight Dress, $249
Keeping in line with the puff Selkie vibes, this pink chiffon mini dress features sheer puff sleeves all the way down to the wrists. It’s ideal for those days when I just shaved my legs and want to be a girly princess.
Selkie The Romantics Dress, $399
We all know that the summer boho vibes of the 2010s are back in a big way, and this detailed floral maxi dress proves that it’s a good thing. The best part about it is the hidden adjustable ruching at the sides so I can change up the shape whenever I want.
Selkie The Puff Dress, $249
If you haven’t been on #BridalTok or opened Pinterest since high school, then you’re missing out. This white Selkie puff dress is on everyone’s wedding vision board for a fun and short wedding dress. It’s great for a small City Hall wedding or as a second reception dress. But I’m not planning a wedding right now so I just want to wear it all summer long.
Get the Selkie Look for Less
Obviously, Selkie dresses run a little steep. If you can’t afford to spend that much right now on a dress but want a similar look while you save, there are tons of similar styles on the market right now. You can also even rent Selkie dresses for a fraction of the price from sites like Rent the Runway and Nuuly. I even rented the Selkie The Cali Rosebud Dress from Rent The Runway for an August wedding and only paid $30 for a four-day rental.
