There’s nothing quite like sunny weather to bring out a healthy glow in your skin. While there are plenty of benefits to enjoying the outdoors, it’s equally important to care for your skin and prevent the negative effects of sun damage.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Canadians, making up at least 40 per cent of all new cancer cases in Canada. With May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to change our habits and ensure that we’re prioritizing our skin’s long-term health.

One way to enjoy the benefits of a glowing tan without suffering the harsh effects of the sun is with the help of self-tanners. The beauty industry has come a long way since the days of streaky orange formulas, and innovative new products offer natural-looking results without the need for any time in the sun. One fan-favourite product even has Sephora shoppers raving.

Infused with natural skin-loving ingredients like avocado, coconut, and chia seed, the drops leave behind a hydrated, even and long-lasting tan with no streaks, stains, or smells. Suitable for use on the face and body, simply add two to 12 drops to your favourite moisturizer, mix together, and apply to skin. Two to four drops leaves a sun kissed complexion, four to eight drops gives a golden effect, and eight to 12 drops gives skin a rich bronzed look.

What shoppers are saying

If you’re looking for a self-tanner that comes backed by customer approval, the Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops are a top choice for the season. They’ve so far earned more than 161,000 "loves" on the Sephora website, as well as a solid 4-star rating.

“This product is awesome and very easy to use. I love that you can add as many or as little drops as you want to modify your tan. I used this on my body and face and had no irritation whatsoever. The tan looks natural and if you apply it correctly, it does not look streaky,” shared one reviewer.

Since you only need to use a few drops at a time, shoppers have also noted that a single bottle offers great value.

“These drops mixed with regular lotion truly give me the glow and subtle tan I’ve been looking for... I can use it on my face and body with no breakouts (though I am not break out prone). I saw them working after 2 uses and I think the bottle will last a long time since so few drops are needed to develop a little colour,” reads one review.

Other reviewers have noted that while effective, these drops do have a fairly strong scent that may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

“This product adds a lovely glow to your skin and stays for a few days after application. I typically put four drops in my lotion and have moderately light skin. However, I find that it has a pretty strong scent that stays all day which I wasn’t crazy about,” admits one reviewer.

If you’re sensitive to fragrances, you may want to pass on this top-rated product. On the other hand, if you're after an easy to use and effective way to fake a tan this summer, add these tanning drops to your next Sephora haul.
