Sex And The City's Carrie Bradshaw Is Telling Us To Match Our Jumpers And Tights This Autumn
If Sarah Jessica Parker’s previous styling solutions in And Just Like That are anything to go by, the weird and wackier (yet weirdly always ahead of the curve) the better. The 2022 social media storm of the television show saw the actor swap her Fendi Baguette for a peculiar life-size Pigeon clutch, which first landed at JW Anderson’s AW22 menswear show. Since then she has worn an Eiffel Tower crossbody, as seen in the first original film, a divisive oversized gingham ‘cloud hat’, a bird-like fascinator and a heavy dose of clashing hues, prints and silhouettes.

The actor's latest leap into experimental dressing was spotted on set for season three in New York on Wednesday. The actor, who plays writer Carrie Bradshaw in the show, doubled down on turquoise, matching her jumper in the vibrant hue with a pair of denier tights. She wore the shade alongside a positivity-clashing red plaid skirt and pointed pink pumps. It’s a bold move, but then again, SJP has never been one to shy away from a daring fashion moment.
As trend cycles are awash with quietly luxurious neutral knits and classic layering, this particular outfit feels like a jolt of electric colour. The coordinated look may seem like a throwback to early 2000s maximalism, but in SJP’s hands, it reads as a quirky play on matchy-matchy dressing.
The question remains: should the rest of us follow suit? Well, if you’re tired of the standard autumnal palette of browns, olives, and rusts, there’s no reason not to slip into an pair of technicolor tight to complement your knitwear. Plus, with temperatures dropping, anything that adds an extra layer of warmth is a win.
Of course, you don’t have to go all-out turquoise. You could experiment with softer tones, like a blush pink or deep burgundy, for a more understated take on the trend. The SS25 runways proved the technicolour tights’ lasting appeal. At Alessandro Michele’s runway debut for Valentino, the designer populated his collection with colourful tights, the opening look featuring ‘Valentino Rosso’ tinted ones, while Prada’s were worn with no trousers at all, built in belts and frothy sheer chiffon.
So, will we all be pairing our jumpers with our tights this autumn? If Parker has anything to say about it, the answer is a resounding yes.
