Just a few months shy of her 60th birthday, country music icon Shania Twain is opening up about the beauty secrets that have her looking just as good as she did at the launch of her career — but they're pretty unconventional.

It's not the first time the "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" singer has has shared her beauty routine to a bit of criticism. Just last year as part of Harper's Bazaar's "Go to Bed with Me" series, Twain revealed her nighttime routine that confused fans, to say the least. Skipping traditional methods of removing her makeup, Twain mixed olive oil and (a lot) of sugar to create a makeup remover-exfoliator all in one. "My skin broke out just watching this video!!!" said one Youtube commenter.

She's now continuing the confusion after telling Us Weekly that she makes her own exfoliating products from whatever she has on hand, even sand. "I have always exfoliated," she said. "I don’t actually buy an exfoliator; I just make it. If I’m somewhere near the beach, I’ll use sand."

She followed up by sharing a couple more conventional, if a bit out-dated, beauty products she loves. "I believe in old-fashioned things, like a bit of Vaseline," she told the magazine. "I always thought Bag Balm was the best of all things." For those unfamiliar with the over 120-year-old product, Bag Balm was originally formulated to soothe dry, cracked cow udders, but it didn't take long for folks to realize how moisturizing the lanolin-rich balm was for the skin.

Along with her more unusual skincare favorites, the "You're Still the One" singer also has a few editor-approved products she loves, too. She's previously mentioned loving quite a few products from luxury brand RATIONALE, and told Us Weekly that Crème de la Mer has "been a staple for me." The.5-ounce size of the La Mer moisturizer will run you $100, but beauty insiders have long rumored that Avène's Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream is a close dupe that comes in at just $26.

While we can't link to sand straight from the shores of the beach nearest you, we can share Twain's other beauty favorites below: controversy not included.
