Shawn Mendes steps out with Sabrina Carpenter: Who is his rumoured new girlfriend?

Earlier this week, Mendes, 24, and Carpenter, 23, were photographed together on a walk in Los Angeles, Calif.

Canadian singer Shawn Mendes is rumoured to be in a budding new romance with fellow pop musician, Sabrina Carpenter.

Earlier this week, Mendes, 24, and Carpenter, 23, were photographed together on a walk in Los Angeles, Calif. The pair both donned casual looks — the Pickering native in black jeans, a denim jacket and white sneakers, and Carpenter in black sweatpants and a matching oversized hoodie.

So, who is Sabrina Carpenter?

She is a former Disney Channel star

Like many pop stars before her, Carpenter rose to fame by way of the Disney Channel, after starring in the "Boy Meets World" spinoff, "Girl Meets World."

She was a contestant on Miley Cyrus's reality show

Before landing her role in "Girl Meets World," Carpenter participated in a singing contest called "MileyWorld Superstar" where she finished in third place.

She was homeschooled

The actor and singer grew up in Lehigh Valley, Penn. where she was homeschooled until her family realized her passion for performing and her talent. They eventually moved to Hollywood so that Carpenter could pursue her career and find her big break.

“I grew up in the middle of the woods, so there was a lot of room and time to be creative and use [her] imagination,” she said in an interview with 1883 Magazine. “My parents always encouraged music and art in my household.”

She struggles with anxiety

In an interview with JustJared, Carpenter revealed that anxiety is “probably my biggest struggle, and something I don’t really talk about… It’s scary when you don’t know how to describe what you’re feeling. Your head is running quicker than your mouth, and you think, I’ve never seen myself like this before.”

Olivia Rodrigo wrote a song about her — maybe

Rodrigo's emotional song "Drivers License" was an instant hit when it came out in 2021. Shortly after, fans were quick to point out the lyrics, “that blonde girl/who always made me doubt” may have been about about Carpenter — who at the time, was rumoured to be dating Joshua Basset, whom Rodrigo had also dated.

She has a massive following on social media

While she isn't quite a household name just yet, it's seemingly only a matter of time. Carpenter has acquired more than 28 million Instagram followers and counting — and her song "Nonsense" is a viral TikTok hit.
