Sheinelle Jones' 3 Kids: All About Kayin, Clara and Uche (Including Who Is Most Likely to Follow in Her “Today” Show Footsteps!)
The 'Today' show host shares two sons and one daughter with her husband, Uche Ojeh
Sheinelle Jones spends her mornings as the co-host of one of the most popular morning shows in the U.S., but at all other hours, she prioritizes another job: being a mom.
The Today show host is a mother to three kids with her husband Uche Ojeh. The couple wed in 2007 and welcomed their first son, Kayin, two years later in August 2009. Twins Clara and Uche joined the family in July 2012.
Though her job is demanding — and takes up the majority of her morning with a 5 a.m. wake time — Jones has learned how to find the balance between work and being there for her kids.
"When it’s earlier, they’re still sleeping. I try not to do interviews after 3, so I can pick my kids up at school,” Jones told The Miami Moms. “Earlier in my career I felt like I was losing touch with the kids because I was doing interviews before or after school. And once you have those boundaries, everyone knows."
She added that when she's on mom duty, she tries to be "fully present" so her children have her full attention.
“When I’m with my kids, I want them to know I’m with them," Jones told the outlet. "If I’m at a [kid’s sports] game or a show for my daughter, I try to be all in."
In January, fans noticed Jones was absent from her usual Today hour, leading the host to confirm on Jan. 15 that she was "taking time to deal with a family health matter."
A source told PEOPLE that the health issue was "serious" but did not involve her three children.
"Sheinelle appreciates the support she’s received from fans and viewers in her absence," the source said. "She’s especially grateful for her tight-knit Today show family and co-hosts, for all their love during a sensitive time."
From meeting the president to special birthday celebrations, here's everything to know about Sheinelle Jones' three kids: Kayin, Clara and Uche.
Kayin Ojeh, 15
Jones' eldest child, Kayin, was born on Aug. 27, 2009. Growing up, Kayin was always eager to learn, "ready to soak up everything they could teach you" as early as Pre-K, Jones wrote in a June 2024 Instagram post celebrating his 8th grade graduation.
Now, the teen may already be following in his mom's footsteps with a career in journalism. In 2021, Kayin made an appearance on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt: Kids Edition to interview one of his favorite authors, Jeff Kinney, the author of the Diary of A Wimpy Kid series.
"I was so nervous, I do this all the time but to set it up for him ... and he really practiced," Jones shared during an episode of Today. "I said, 'Ok Kayin, when he says an answer, you may have to have a follow-up question.' "
Kayin took his public speaking skills from behind the camera to a stage when he gave a speech at his middle school graduation ceremony in 2024 — and made his mom proud.
"When you stepped up to the podium with that smile, my heart was filled with so much gratitude for the young man that you are, and the man you are becoming," Jones wrote alongside a montage of photos from the special day. "Love you Kayin! - 8th grade! ✅ I can’t believe it’s time for high school! ❤️."
Later that year, Kayin accompanied Jones on a White House visit in December 2024 where he and his mom met President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The TV show host reflected on the meeting in an Instagram post, calling it a moment that "transcended politics."
"I got emotional as the president kindly complimented his attire and then said these words to him with the most sincere eyes - 'Son, I want to tell you the most important thing. Remember I told you this : always, take care of your mother,' " Jones wrote. "Kayin replied 'I will. Yes sir.' "
Clara and Uche Ojeh, 12
Jones and Ojeh welcomed fraternal twins Clara and Uche on July 10, 2012, in the same Philadelphia hospital where their mom and older brother were born.
When the twins were 2 years old, Jones opened up in a personal essay for Today on the challenges of raising two kids at once.
"I wish I had known earlier how important it is to learn who they are as individuals and feed their own particular needs, while also teaching them that they are a team," Jones wrote.
Now, the twins have grown into their own people, though they still enjoy partaking in family events together. Clara and Uche joined Jones at the 2023 U.S. Open, where they had an important role in the day as ball kids.
"So normally when you watch the @usopen you don’t hear a mom in the audience cheering for the ball kids … but this mom did for her twins. ☺️," Jones wrote of the day on Instagram.
For her 12th birthday in 2024, Jones and Clara shared a special day as Kayin and Uche were at summer camp, making it the first birthday Jones' daughter celebrated without her twin. To mark the special occasion, Jones took Clara to get her ears pierced, joking that back in her day, she "had to get 'all A’s' first."
"Such a fun and memorable day. 💗💗," she wrote alongside a video of Clara getting new earrings.
