Emma Bridgewater's Coronation Collection Is 30% Off Right Now
To celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, British pottery brand Emma Bridgewater has released a new coronation collection, joining a plethora of coronation memorabilia and merch available. Featuring mugs, plates, tea towels, and more, the collection is all handcrafted and hand decorated in the Emma Bridgewater factory in Stoke on Trent, England.
"The tradition of creating Commemorative ceramic wares for significant Royal Events has been at the heart of all good British Potteries for centuries," Emma Bridgewater herself told Town & Country over e-mail. "Since the very early days of the company nearly 40 years ago, I instinctively knew the importance of making Commemorative Wares for important events. Many Royal Weddings, Births, Deaths and Joyful Jubilees have been remembered in specially designed wares. Previously, we have produced items to mark 16 different Royal events such as The Diamond Jubilee, Prince George’s birth and William and Catherine’s wedding."
"It's very special—we have a longstanding history and tradition in the pottery industry of commemorative royal events," Stephen Beeston, head of production, told the BBC. "We are expecting a big demand and probably, if history is anything to go by, with the events that we've marked before, it will account for a big part of what we're doing."
The King Charles coronation collection features three different styles: one, the '3 Cheers for King Charles' print, is a vibrant purple, yellow, and red pattern that includes a lion, crown, and the date of the coronation. The lion is a symbol of England, and appears on the royal coat of arms.
Bridgewater shared, "Whether you buy a Commemorative Mug to sit on a mantlepiece, or perhaps as a beautiful centrepiece on your kitchen dresser—or indeed you might buy several and give a tea party and thereafter use the mugs every day—you will be joining in with a long-lived tradition, for we have been making wares for great occasions in Staffordshire for at least 400 years. I know that we will all want to fly the flag, watch the ceremony and possibly gather a party of family and friends to celebrate this historic and rousing occasion—and there will be mugs and tea!"
In September, the pottery brand launched commemorative mugs for Queen Elizabeth II, which are still available to purchase online (the "Golden Years" mug is particularly lovely). Bridgewater said that the commemorative mug marking the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II was the "fastest selling and the most popular item we have ever produced," and the coronation mug is quickly becoming the second-most popular.
The royal family "held a very special place here in our hearts at Emma Bridgewater," Beeston said. "The pottery industry has a longstanding tradition producing commemorative ware that goes back probably to the mid-17th century. We have the heritage here, we have the expertise, and we're very proud to be associated with the royal family."
