Show Us the Deleted Sex Scene from 'The White Lotus' Season 3!
While White Lotus fans process all of the characters who left season 3 in a body bag, series creator Mike White is letting viewers know that there's hours of footage that didn't make it past the cutting room floor. White reportedly turned in original cuts of over an hour and forty minutes per episode, before whittling each one down to the hour that audiences viewed on HBO every Sunday. "As a writer, I got a little indulged," White told The Hollywood Reporter. So what did we miss?
Well, apparently season 3's disparate stories featured much more overlap in the original script. Outside of throwing out the fan-favorite ooh-loo-loos of the theme from past seasons, White also tossed a scene in which Piper loses her virginity to Belinda's son, Zion. The scene "would have added ten minutes" to the finale, says White, which clocked in at two and a half hours before his final cut. "There’s this whole scene where she’s like, It’s true [that she's a virgin]," White revealed about Piper on The White Lotus Official Podcast. “Saxon is right about this one thing. I need to get this over with. After she leaves the monastery, she’s just like, ‘I need to have sex.' "
"She has her hair down... she’s just thinking about how she got nicely fucked or whatever," White continued. "And [Saxon]'s reading his self-help book. It’s this kind of reversal." White eventually decided that the scene didn't fit. "It just felt like I was trying to do too much narratively," he said.
How about another deleted scene? According to Sam Nivola (who played Lochlan Ratliff), his character's near-death experience was originally far scarier. The actor told Deadline that he filmed another fantasy depicting Lochlan carted off in a body bag before springing back to life. "And that was so scary, because I had to be zipped in a body bag with no air, and then unzip myself,” he said.
Now that's what I call a twist ending. Release the White cut!
