This Ski-In, Ski-Out Mountain Home Near Vail Just Hit the Market for $50 Million

Vail, Colorado, is an iconic winter destination with no shortage of truly epic vacation homes. However, one newly listed mountain manse at the foot of Bear Tree run brings alpine style to a whole new level.

Sitting on Rockledge Road in Vail Village with plenty of room for family and friends, the ski-in, ski-out home measures a whopping 12,447 square feet and features eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms. That’s not all, of course. The stately chalet also has a swimming pool, an outdoor fire pit, a hot tub, and sweeping views of the Gore Range.

Now on the market for just shy of $50 million with Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate/Forbes Global Properties, the palatial residence set a local real estate record when it sold in 2017 for $23 million. Records show the Rocky Mountain abode was sold again in 2020 to its current owners, Michael and Lori Kosloske, for a cool $27.5 million.

A ski-in, ski-out home in Vail, Colorado is on the market for $49.5 million.

Designed by architect Kyle Webb and built by George Shaeffer in 2007, the slopeside residence took the place of a circa 1962 homesite and has recently undergone an extensive remodel—which would explain why it’s now being offered up for nearly double what it sold for just four years ago.

“This is the finest mix of mountain contemporary and traditional design we’ve ever done. It has broad appeal, but on a human scale,” Webb told Vail-Beaver Creek Magazine back in 2012. “These days, homes like this are designed more for being together with family. Here, you can have two people or forty in the room and still feel comfortable.”

A soaring 42-foot-high entry immediately sets the tone and opens up to a light-filled great room that sports a stone-framed fireplace and a custom rock crystal chandelier. Nearby, there’s a one-of-a-kind walnut bar, a spacious wine storage room, and a gourmet chef’s kitchen. On the lower level is where one would likely do most of their entertaining. The space has a media room, a game room, and a spa that’s decked out with a steam shower and a walkout hot tub. Outside, a 50-foot lap pool is the perfect place to go after a long day on the mountain. The fire pit is nice too.

The primary suite features a fireplace and wood beam ceilings.

The property, which includes three additional parcels, belonged to late Colorado socialites Vernon “Moose” Taylor and his wife, Ann Bonfoey Taylor, in the ’60s. At the time, Moose was the president of Westhoma Oil and an early investor in the Vail area, while Ann was best known as a competitive tennis player, a skiwear designer, and the first American woman to have a pilot’s license. Together, the couple built what was long considered to be the village’s first luxury ski chalet, and even with all the changes, the house that stands on the property now is certainly still one of the nicest.
