Sofía Vergara Wants to Spend More Time in New York City Now That She’s Single
Sofía Vergara is looking forward to being single in the city! The Modern Family star made an appearance on last night's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and confessed that she hopes to “spend more time” in New York in the near future. The reason, you ask? The men, obvi!
“I love it. Who doesn’t love New York City? The people, it’s the energy,” she said during her convo with Jimmy. “I think that you have more options with men, also.”
Sofia—who btw lives in Los Angeles most of the time—then went on to add, “I’m single now, so in New York, there are more people. There’s not only actors or writers or directors, I think there’s a bigger [pool]. I’m going to spend more time in New York.”
“And also there’s great food here in New York, too,” the comedian chimed in, to which the actor agreed: “There’s great food for when you go out on dates. It’s better, yes.”
Sofía's ex-husband, Joe Manganiello, filed for divorce from the America’s Got Talent judge last July, following the couple’s announcement that they were separating. At the time, they released a statement to Page Six that read, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
In the wake of the bombshell news, a source shed some light on the split and revealed to People that the actors had “been growing apart for some time now and tried to resolve things, but they are focused on different areas of their lives.” “They definitely love and respect each other but once that initial passion dies down and other areas get in the way, then little differences get bigger,” the insider added.
In the time since, the former couple seems to have moved on, with Sofía even being reportedly linked to orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman and Joe dating actor Caitlin O’Connor (the two went red carpet official last month).
During her Tonight Show appearance, the actor also took a moment to discuss her latest casting as Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in the upcoming Netflix series Griselda, which is set to debut on January 25. Sofía commented on how the role almost immediately resonated with her: “I grew up in the ‘70s, the ‘80s, the ‘90s and everybody knew who the [Blanco family] were...I was very, like, ‘I know this character, I think I can do it.'”
During a prior interview on CBS Sunday Morning on January 14, Sofía expounded on her passion for the project and mused, “[Griselda] was this Columbian woman in the '70s and the '80s that actually took over the drug dealing business not only in Columbia [but] here in the United States too...When I thought of Griselda, I wanted her to be like Tony Soprano. I wanted her to be a character you didn't hate even though they are a bad guy.”
