Someone will win this Kansas City home in HGTV’s 2024 Urban Oasis getaway. Take a peek

HGTV has revealed it rebuilt a home in Kansas City this year and is giving it away for its 2024 Urban Oasis sweepstakes.

Before-and-after photos posted on HGTV.com show that the rebuild project began in early January and started wrapping up in July. The home and garden channel did not reveal the location. But social media users say it is in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood.

HGTV is not offering public tours, but more photos and videos of the project will be released Sept. 5, a company spokeswoman told The Star. All that’s been released so far are photos of empty rooms.

Astoria Design Build, LLC, a woman-owned company in Johnson County, is listed as the builder and architect.

Carmeon Hamilton, an interior designer from Memphis and a past winner of HGTV’s “Design Star: The Next Gen” competition, created the look for the home, which includes a blue kitchen that would make any University of Kansas fan happy.

Architectural Digest has hailed Hamilton as a “rising star taking the design world by storm.”

“Your girl created one STUNNING home in Kansas City (that you could win!) and we can’t wait to reveal it 9/5,” she wrote on Instagram.

HGTV has given away remodeled and rebuilt homes in urban centers across the country — New York City, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville and last year in Louisville, Kentucky — every year since 2010.

The winner of last year’s giveaway, randomly chosen from more than 73 million entries, received a prize package worth more than $850,000 that included a newly built, fully furnished house, a 2023 Mercedes-Benz SUV and $50,000 from Viva paper towel company.

In a hype video recently posted on Instagram about the Kansas City project, HGTV answered the question: “It’s just a city in the Midwest. Why would you build HGTV Urban Oasis 2024 there?”

Among other slices of local life, the video shows glimpses of game days at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium, a jazz musician at 18th and Vine and Union Station.

The announcement also makes sly reference to the city’s newest cheerleader, superstar Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

“Are you ready for it?” it reads, quoting one of Swift’s hits. “Here are just a few reasons why we chose this vibey Midwest locale for our next amazing home giveaway.

“Top-tier pro sports. THE FOOD — heeeyyyy KC BBQ. World-class museums. Thriving visual performance art scene. Famous jazz culture.”

HGTV also released the home’s floor plan.

A home office, living room and powder room are right inside the front door, with a kitchen and dining room at the back of the house on the first floor.

Spaces on the second floor include a main bedroom and bath, guest bedroom and bath, laundry room, a “bunk room” with bunk beds and a music lounge. There’s space for a gym in the basement.
