Something old, something new: Your guide to the Kansas City area’s holiday ice rinks

It might have felt more like summer for much of the last month, but ice skating season is just around the bend in Kansas City.

The area’s longest-running outdoor rink, the Crown Center Ice Terrace, has delayed operations a week because of the warm weather and opens the second weekend in November for its 52nd season.

At the other end of the spectrum is a new outdoor rink: the Soul of Santa Winter Wonderland on Ice in the 18th and Vine District. It is scheduled to open Friday, Nov. 15.

Three other outdoor skating venues also will begin operations in November.

Hours vary widely and could change because of the weather, so check websites before venturing out. Most places offer group rates and party rentals.

Here is a rundown of the area’s holiday skating offerings.
