This Is the 'Squid Game' Currency Conversion Guide You Need
This story contains spoilers for Squid Game season 2.
Like many other Squid Game viewers, I’m sure I’m not the only person who constantly refers to conversion calculators to figure out the winnings. When I’m watching the hit Netflix series and I hear about the 45.6 billion cash prize, it sure sounds like a lot of money. Lee jung-jae cuts a shape out of a cookie and he's in the running for a giant piggy bank worth billions. Then, I’m forced to remind myself that the 45.6 billion winnings are in Korean won.
For those who don’t have a mind like a calculator, 45.6 billion Korean won currently equals roughly £24.8 million dollars. That’s still a lot of money. Squid Game: The Challenge awarded players $4.56 million—and even that amount was a big deal. Luckily, all those real-life contestants just had to pretend they were killed during the trials.
Here's some other helpful conversions as you watch. After season 2’s game of “Red Light, Green Light,” the pot is around 10 billion Korean won (roughly £5.4 million dollars). The pot increases to 20.1 billion Korean won ($13.6 million dollars) after the six-legged race in episode 5. Before the series cuts to credits in the season 2 finale, the pot stands at 35.6 billion Korean won (£19.2 million). So many contestants died in the finale, however, that the pot is surely even larger once we return.
What would you do with the money if you won Squid Game? Hopefully, Gi-hun survives season 3 to even use his winnings when Squid Game returns sometime next year.
