We, the general public, have been blessed with the opportunity to watch Stanley Tucci in his element via Instagram for years now. The actor-turned-food-icon brings followers into his kitchen on a weekly basis to show off what he and his wife, Felicity, are cooking up, and it’s always something gourmet. And while it’s hard to take your eyes off both Tucci and the food, if you take a peek around his kitchen, you might come away with a few design ideas to run with in your own space.

For example, Tucci has employed a bit of open shelving in his kitchen, just above the sink opposite his massive kitchen island. But rather than displaying decorative items like fancy plates, vases, or a collection of glassware, Tucci uses it to keep his go-to stainless steel cookware within reach at all times. (Also, note the two knife blocks next to the range. This chef means business.)

Most of us probably keep our cookware out of sight when it’s not in use, either tucked into a cabinet under the counter or away in a pantry space. Then, when it’s time to go grab that one pan you need, you likely have to upset your Russian nesting dolls of pots and pans and try not to disturb the whole neighborhood with the clatter this process causes.

But, similar to how some chefs and at-home cooks keep their supplies on a rack above the stove or island, Tucci keeps his most-used pots and pans on a dedicated shelf right out in the open. That way, he can grab and go without needing to do the stainless steel shuffle. And when each pan is washed and dried, it can be popped right back into its spot with minimal effort.

So, rather than using your open shelving to display decorative objects or things you only use once in a while, put them to work full-time. You might find yourself more inspired to create Stanley Tucci-approved meals when all your tools are at the ready.
