Starbucks' Just Released a Rare Color-Changing Cup for Valentine's Day

From Good Housekeeping

  • Social media users have spotted new Valentine's Day-themed lines of merchandise in Starbucks' stores across the country.

  • The collection features new color-changing cups, water bottles, mugs, and a selection of matte and glitter-infused cold-brew cups, all at various price points.

  • Most items seem to be available at Target for now, but a Starbucks representative says items may arrive in stores closer to Valentine's Day.

New year, new Starbucks! Everyone's favorite coffee chain has been busy drawing in coffee aficionados with a brand new trio of seasonal beverages (including this must-try pistachio latte) and cool new promotions tied to healthier breakfasts. But if you haven't been heading into your local Starbucks lately, you might want to swing by to check out the cafe's merchandise section, as it seems Valentine's Day has already landed in some of the chain's locations across the country.

Social media users have seemingly fallen in love with a line of new Valentine's Day-adjacent cups and mugs at Starbucks this year, including a few different options across drinkware categories. The newest merch getting all the attention could be this classic Starbucks "grande" coffee cup done up in purple and adorned with a kiss — which also changes colors when it holds a hot beverage.

But fans are also very excited about the return of an item that hit Starbucks' cafés a few years ago, according to our friends at Delish — a 24-ounce matte black studded cold-brew cup that first appeared in 2019. Diehard cold-cup fans will also find a few other updated versions of this design, including a fiery Valentine's red as well as a soft lilac shade that this TikToker can't stop raving about.

Social media users have also spotted a cute heart-and-kiss motif cold-brew cup that incorporates just as much glitter as Starbucks' outgoing Christmas collection did. There are a few new heart-emblazoned stoneware mugs to choose from, as well as at least three new sleek water bottles to shop, including a muted lime green option that Delish editors can't get enough of. Some of the collection, per snapshots we've seen, may feature items tied to the chain's Lunar New Year celebrations.

There's been a common theme across many of the social-media-driven posts we've seen about the newest line of Starbucks drinkware — many shoppers seem to find these items only at Starbucks cafés nestled within Target stores. An earlier release to Target locations this month and a later rollout to local cafés certainly makes sense, as the retailer placed exclusive Halloween-themed merchandise exclusively in Target locations last September. It seems that your best chance of finding any of these new cups and mugs may be heading to a local Target-and-Starbucks combo in your area.

A Starbucks representative tells Good Housekeeping that the chain is still working on finalizing its release schedule for winter 2021 merchandise in stores. But as more new merchandise appears on places like Instagram and TikTok, we can't help but wonder if the retailer has a few more cup designs up their (coffee!) sleeve. We'll keep our eyes peeled — and update this story as soon as we get more details. Happy hunting!
