If you’ve been dreaming of a cosy autumn staycation with soothing spa treatments, beautiful countryside walks and a crackling log burner for chilly evenings on the sofa, we may have stumbled across the perfect place for you.

One of Retreat East's newest offerings is a collection of luxury field barns created by architect and owner, Dominic, alongside skilled local artisans. Named the Elements, the barns feature vibrant yet calming colour palettes of earthy browns and moss greens, alongside plenty of tactile textures to allow you to switch off and reconnect with nature.

Each cabin has been designed with sustainability in mind, honouring the five natural elements: earth, wind, water, wood and fire. For example, the outdoor bathtub and rainfall shower are powered by an on-site water aquifer, where an underground sediment layer allows water to rise to the surface through springs and supply fresh to the cabins.

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by a selection of wooden barns that sit in Retreat East's tranquil meadow, all with uninterrupted views of 35 acres of land. Quaint and cosy, each barn has a characterful tin roof and private deck area that reminds us of something straight out of a Western film.

Inside, you’ll find an open-plan kitchen and living area that blends vibrant, contemporary design with traditional features. From the rustic shiplap timber panelling and plush velvet sofa, to the log burner and deer antler lampshades, this area is made for cosy evenings in front of the fire listening to the pitter-patter of rain.

We particularly love the kitchen space here. In a rich forest green, this small but mighty space packs quite the aesthetic punch. Every small detail has been thought about too, whether it be the large butler sink, glazed ceramic dinnerware, country-inspired sage kettle and toaster combo or the stylish Smeg fridge. For coffee lovers, there’s even a Grind coffee machine.

One of our favourite areas, though, is the roomy bedroom. It comes complete with a four-poster king-size bed in a matching forest green hue, alongside plush checkered cushions and a velvet bed throw for a charming farmhouse feel. We love the bifold doors at the rear of this space that lets heaps of light and breeze through.

Beyond the bifold doors is the pièce de résistance of the Elements barns: the private outdoor area. Featuring a luxurious rolltop bath covered by a wooden canopy and festoon lighting, this is a space you’ll truly want to unwind in. After a soothing bubble bath, you can relax in the hanging egg chair or rattan garden furniture with your favourite read.

Last but not least is the opulent ensuite bathroom. From the brushed brass fittings to the large rainfall shower, it’s quite apparent that this room, along with the rest of the property, has been masterfully crafted to the highest specification. The gorgeous tinted shampoo bottles made by local artisan scent lab, Loggique, just had to come home with us, too.
