Stephen Colbert apologises for jokes made before Kate’s cancer announcement

Stephen Colbert has issued an apology to The Princess of Wales after he poked fun at her days before she announced her cancer diagnosis.

The US talk show host admitted he “understands” his jokes upset some viewers and extended his “well wishes and heartfelt hope” that Kate makes a swift and thorough recovery.

“For the last six weeks to two months, everybody has been talking about the mystery of Kate Middleton’s disappearance from public life,” he said during Monday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

“But there is a standard that I try to hold myself to. And that is, I do not make light of somebody else’s tragedy.”
